Give your home a seasonal refresh with these autumnal buys.

IKEA has launched three key collections for autumn/winter 2022 — Natural Neutrals, Folklore Fusion and Nostalgic Expression — as part of its wider 'Transitions' theme.

'This season we are going to see more people embrace fun in the home, with bold statement pieces that express their individual personality,' Clotilde Passalacqua, Interior Design Manager at IKEA UK and Ireland, says. 'Simple tweaks will help establish a cosy atmosphere, ideal for dark nights relaxing with friends and family.'

Focusing on embracing what we already have in our homes, the three trends tap into IKEA's initiative to move away from 'seasonal' trends. Unlike previous homeware drops, they are looking at the small ways we can adapt and change our homes by investing in quality products that stand the test of time.

The use of natural neutrals has often been considered a way to create a mentally and physically calming environment. For AW22, IKEA is embracing soft hues — including sage green and subtle browns — to help shoppers achieve that sought-after sanctuary.

'One of the biggest bonuses of decorating your home with neutral pieces is their versatility,' says Clotilde. 'Contrasting textures in the same shade work just as well as contrasting colours. Earthy colours and organic materials will create a chic environment whilst bringing the calming effects of the outdoors in.'

Practical storage is all about making the most of your space. As part of IKEA's Natural Neutrals trend, you'll find standout shelving displays and cabinets to keep clutter at bay. To tie in with the theme of nature, each furniture item has been crafted with their natural wood texture.

Bridge the gap between the indoors and outdoors with dried flowers, natural grasses and statement plants.

'Nature also has a relaxing influence on the mind, so incorporating houseplants like the Monstera Deliciosa will draw on those vibrant natural colours and help to create a positive environment.'

Bring indoors the rich autumn colour palette of fiery reds and golden yellows. Whether you're looking for a new rug or need a dining room table, IKEA's Folklore Fusion trend is all about playing with an array of colours, designs and shapes.

According to the global IKEA Life at Home Report, 93 per cent of adults believe it's important to create a home that provides them with a sense of comfort. Our bedrooms should provide a relaxing sanctuary from the world outside – and the Nostalgic Expression trend does just that.

Preparing your home for the autumn season? Clotilde explains: 'Another way of bringing Nostalgic Expression into your home is by experimenting with vintage tones, colours, and patterns to capture a timeless feel.

'Rich shades of green, soft greys and blues make up the main colour palette, while chunky textured fabrics that embody warmth complete the wholesome aesthetic.'

Autumn is the perfect time to declutter your home. The weather has finally cooled and you can clear out each room before the frost of winter (and make room for Christmas decorations). We think these mini storage bags from IKEA are ideal for tidying like a pro.

'Having spent more time in the same four walls following the normalisation of working from home, we are seeing heightened creativity in the way we decorate our spaces,' adds Clotilde.

'Inspired by memories of carefree days, we're seeing block colours and simple geometric patterns that transport us back to previous decades being favoured.'
